COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
Although heat extraction techniques can result in higher yields, heat also destroys many of the beneficial nutrients found in natural ingredients.
Naturally, Cold Pressed Oil extraction involves minimal heat, allowing all these beneficial nutrients to remain intact in the oils.
-
Common ingredient processing techniques used in the industry include:
- Solvent and/or heat extraction
- over-refining
- deodorising
- bleaching
These processes are generally used to increase yields and make ingredients more "palatable". However these processes are also unnecessarily wasteful (they consume a lot of time, labour & monetary resources) and destructive as they contaminate, strip away and destroy the most beneficial components of the natural ingredients... leaving the ingredients nutrient poor.
To ensure our the full spectrum of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and essential fatty acids that the parent nut/seed/plant offers, are available for your skin, we seek only Minimally Processed Ingredients - lightly filtered (ie virgin) cold pressed carrier oils, & steam distilled essential oils.

Cheap Fillers are ingredients included in products primarily to bring their product costs down... so the company can make more money.
These ingredients offer your skin very little or no nutritional benefit, and more often than not can be quite harmful to your skin.
Examples of Cheap Fillers include ingredients like water, parabens, emulsifiers, thickeners & liquid micro-plastics.

Have you ever noticed how/why the cooking oils you use don't need to be stored in the fridge? and that they don't go "off" very quickly either?
Bacteria are the organisms generally responsibly for making things go "off"... and bacteria need water to survive.
As humans, we use preservatives to kill bacteria in products to make them last longer.
But if you take away the water, bacteria can't breed or survive very long.
In hydrophobic substances (something that repels water) like pure oils/fats, there is no water for bacteria to thrive in... so there's no need for preservatives (which can be harmful and irritating to the skin).

Coconut oil is highly comedogenic - meaning it has a high tendency to clog pores.
Because Coconut oil molecules are so large, when applied topically they have trouble being absorbed by the skin. Instead the molecules tend to sit on top of the skin making you feel greasy.
These two properties combined mean that if applied to the skin, Coconut oil can trap microorganisms (like bacteria) and debris, which can lead to acne and other skin concerns.
For these reasons, we do not use Coconut oil in any of our formulations.
